Q & A

Why did you choose your profession?

I didn’t plan to end up in IT. I studied supply chain management and started off in supply chain management consulting coming out of college. My first assignment happened to be implementing a supply chain management system. There, I found my passion for working with customers and end users to deliver technology solutions to meet their challenging business needs, and I’ve never turned back.

Who are your main influences?

I’ve had so many influences over the years that it would be hard to list them all. I’ve been fortunate to work for several good people who have taught me different things that have stuck with me throughout my career. My first manager taught me to be detail-oriented, that details matter, and that the words you choose and how you say something matter. Another manager emphasized the ability to influence people and talk through a situation with a person to help them get to an answer instead of just giving them the answer. I worked for another manager who focused on active listening and how to be more selective when providing opinions or recommendations, resulting in higher credibility when deciding to speak up. My brother has also had a great influence on me. Having someone very close to me in the industry who has experienced similar situations and being able to ask for advice or bounce ideas off him has always been very valuable.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest professional accomplishment has been watching those I have coached and mentored continue to move up in their careers, get promotions, and take on new opportunities and responsibilities. Most of my career has been spent leading teams to deliver on high-priority items. If it were not for the great people I have worked with, there would not be much to celebrate.

On a personal level, my greatest personal accomplishment has been raising two great young kids and watching them continue to grow and develop their interests and passions.

What advice would you give someone just starting in your profession?

Try different things and find your passion. Surround yourself with people you can learn from and enjoy working with. Always remain curious about learning. I never want to be the smartest person in the room. I want to continue learning new things from those around me to continue growing in my career.

Do you have a favorite season?

Fall is my favorite season. It’s the best time of year for sports, with football season just getting started and baseball playoffs. You get the leaves and weather changing, the start of the holiday season, and a great time of year to get together with family and friends.
